Florala will be holding their first annual Halloween town event on October 31 this year. The event will take place in downtown Florala from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will begin at the Super Gym, Kendall Williford said.
“It’s going to be hosted by the Tri Cities Chamber of Commerce,” Williford said. “That includes Florala, Paxton and Lockhart, so businesses in those areas will be there.”
The event does not have a specific age range and is a family friendly event, Williford said.
“There will be trick or treating and the businesses that are participating will be decorated,” Williford said. “They will still be open for business. It’s a way to promote our businesses and even those that aren’t located downtown will still be given an area to trunk or treat, so they will still participate.”
Williford said the chamber is hoping to encourage local businesses to join the chamber as well as participate in the event.
“We’re also trying to encourage businesses to join the chamber, so that’s another way to participate,” Williford said. “It’s a membership drive in a sense. Membership is half-off right now to join, so it’s half-off until the end of the year.”
Both businesses and individuals are participating in the festivities, Williford said.
“We have some local people, just individuals, who are also participating,” Williford said. “Some people will possibly be selling food. We will encourage social distancing and wearing masks, but we feel it’s a safer option since it’s outside.”
Williford said she is excited for the upcoming event. “It’s something brand new for Florala,” Williford said. “It’s a really new thing for the city, so I think it’s going to be a really great event and we’ve had a lot of interest already.”
