HARRY HINSON

Mr. Harry Hinson, age 93 of Andalusia died on August 26, 2020 in a Bay Minette nursing home. Graveside services for Mr. Hinson will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 3:30pm from the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Kevin Wellborn will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Andalusia Kiwanis Club. Foreman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hinson was born in 1927 in Georgia. His parents died while he was still very young and he was raised by his aunt and uncle. After graduation from McRae High School Mr. Hinson joined the Merchant Marines and served from 1948 to 1952. In 1952 he joined the US Army and served his country until 1954. He then went to work for Independent Life Insurance Company and stayed with them until his retirement in 1992. It was during his time with Independent Life that he and his family moved to Andalusia in 1961 to start an office here. Mr. Hinson was very involved in his church and community during his years in Andalusia. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Andalusia and served in many capacities in his church during his life. In 1963 he joined the Andalusia Kiwanis Club and was a faithful member until his death. He was the driving force behind the Kiwanis Building located on the southern by pass. He coordinated all aspects of the building and operation of the building and grounds and volunteered as building manager for 15 years. Mr. Hinson was a past District Governor of Kiwanis and he received the George F. Hixon award by Kiwanis International for his leadership and work in the Kiwanis Club. He was the 1511th person internationally to receive this award. In addition to his work in Kiwanis, Mr. Hinson was also involved in the civic affairs of his community. He served on the City Council from 2000-2004, served on the Andalusia Water Board, and served on the zoning commission. In all of this he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Mr. Hinson was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hinson and is survived by his three children, his daughter Becky (Copey) Copenhaver of Punta Gorda, Fla., Mike (Jan) Hinson of Trussville, Al., and Rick Hinson of Andalusia; grandchildren, Erin Williams, Alex Hinson, Haley Hinson, Carlie Hinson , Evan Hinson and Noah Copenhaver; two great grandchildren, Bryce and Paycen Williams; and a sister, Pat Rice of Hemet, Ca.

The family will visit with friends at the cemetery.

DANIEL LYNN “DANNY” GANTT

Mr. Daniel Lynn “ Danny” Gantt of Andalusia died on August 26, 2020 in an Opp hospital. Graveside services for Mr. Gantt will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11am from the Able Cemetery in Gantt. Reverend Wayne Sharpe and Reverend Doyle Prescott will officiate. The family will visit with friends at the cemetery.

Mr. Gantt grew up in Andalusia and graduated from Andalusia High School. He spent several years serving his country in the US Navy and also in the US Army. He was an aviation electrician at Ft. Rucker for several years after his military service

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Chesser Gantt of Andalusia; a son, Brandon Knight (Lora) Gantt of Pike Road, Al; two grandsons, Walter and Henry Gantt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons.
