St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is holding their annual rummage sale throughout the month of August. Church volunteer Kristy White gave a sneak peek into what to expect at the upcoming sale.
The sale will consist of a variety of items ranging from vintage finds to modern bargains, White said.
“The rummage sale started eight years ago as a way to raise money for altar guild linens,” White said. “Through the years, it became a church-wide project to help support outreach programs.”
The proceeds ultimately benefit the church’s many outreach programs.
“The St. Mary’s Rice and Beans ministry serves those in need a hot breakfast and provides food staples to take home on the third Saturday of each month,” White said. “Other outreach programs include Laundry Love and Jo’s Community Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.”
White explained that this is the first time the sale will last for an entire month.
“The sale is generally just one Friday and Saturday, but now shoppers will have the whole month,” White said. “The rummage sale depends on the donations of church members and others, and each year our sale has grown.”
“We always have a good supply of Christmas trees and decorations, knick knacks, purses, comforters and bedding, gently used toys, books in all genres, DVDs, housewares, furniture, vacuum and steam cleaners, baby strollers and play items, pet accessories, bookcases, desks, and so much more,” White said. “This year we have a large selection of lamps, brand name clothing, and new Sashka Co and Paparazzi jewelry still in original packaging. New items will be added to room 208 regularly during the month, so if you don’t find what you are looking for on your first visit, be sure to check back with us.”
With social distancing guidelines in effect, White is still optimistic about the success of the sale.
“The pandemic has transformed our annual rummage sale, but we are excited to partner with Picket Fence Antiques and Flea Market during August,” White said. “Our rummage sale will set up in room 208 on the second floor. Picket Fence offers a steady traffic flow with enough room for social distancing, so we are relieved to have a creative yet safe way to get our sale items to the public.”
