The South Alabama Regional Airport Board on Wednesday OK’d a new lease agreement with Davis Aviation.

SARA Executive Director Jed Blackwell said that the Davises – Joey, Wanda and Andrew – lease a hangar in which they do airframe and powerplant work on aircraft.

“They have been very busy,” Blackwell said. “Joey also flies for several small businesses here as their chief pilot.”

Blackwell requested that the airport board OK the rent of $1 per month for the 8,000-foot hangar through Sept. 30, 2020 and then $400 per month for one year beginning on Oct. 1, 2020, and then $450 the following year.

“We have had three aircraft incidents in the last four months,” Blackwell said. “During each incident, Joey has helped fix the aircraft and has provided a service to us.”

John Roberts questioned Blackwell on the pricing structure, saying it seemed very low.

Blackwell said that the larger 60 x 60 hangars rent for $500 per month and the 50×50 rent for $250.

“We have factored in the services her provides in this,” SARA board president Gary Smith said.
