Mr. James Derrick “Jamie” Straughn, 33, of Andalusia, passed away recently.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Tue., June 16, 2020, from Good News Baptist Chapel in Rose Hill with Brother Jay Driver officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing.   

Visitation was 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Tesia Straughn; three daughters, Chloe Faith Morley, Kylee Addison Straughn, Mali Mae Straughn; one son, Pilot James Straughn; his parents, Wynne Straughn and John Timothy Straughn; one brother, John David Straughn; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jana Straughn Short and husband Joey.

MAVIS INEZ SUTTON

Mrs. Mavis Inez Sutton, age 89 of Andalusia, passed away on Tuesday, June 16th, 2020 at Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be Fri., June 19, 2020 at 11 a.m., at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Keith Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m., until 8 p.m., Thu., June 18, 2020, at Forman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances Sutton of Andalusia, AL, Pauline Ellisor (Larry) of Florala, AL, Jackie Dye (Steve) of Andalusia, AL; her son, Wayne Scott (Betty) of River Falls, AL; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Midge Alexander of Mobile, AL; her brother, Edward Sasser of Mobile, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SEVERA “ANN” MARTIN JOHNSON

Severa “Ann” Martin Johnson, 90, of Andalusia, passed away Tuesday June 16, 2020 at Andalusia Manor.

A memorial service will be arranged by Forman Funeral Home at a later date.

She is survived by her son, Donnie Johnson of Andalusia, AL; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anna and Joey Caldwell of Andalusia, AL; 2 great granddaughters, Kate and Caroline Caldwell of Andalusia, AL; her sisters; and also many nieces and nephews.

RICHARD WARD “DICKIE” BARNES

There will be a memorial/celebration of life service for Richard Ward “Dickie” Barnes on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 from 2pm-5pm at Blue Lake Methodist Camp – Pinewood Lodge dining hall.

All friends and relatives are invited to attend.  Casual dress – he would want you to come as you are.  There will be a memorial service with P.J. McClung conducting.

The family would love to hear any funny or meaningful stories or any memories of Dickie that anyone would like to share.  Refreshments will be available after the service and allowed 3 hours so everyone will have time to visit, meet the family, and share laughs before we say not “goodbye” but “’til we meet again” to a man who was loved by so many.

JEROLENE “JERRY” MARTIN CARTER

Jerolene “Jerry” Martin Carter of Charleston SC, widow of H.S. “Boney” Carter passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by family. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Saturday at Foreman Funeral Home prior to services.

Jerry was born on November 15, 1927 in Coffee County Alabama, the daughter of LP and Tesse Newman Martin. Jerry , affectionately known to most as “Granny”, had a beautiful full life filled with wonderful family and lifelong friendships. She made a career in the Textile Industry and was the first female floor supervisor for Levi Strauss Co. After retirement she worked in Childcare for many years. She was an avid walker, her home cooking could not be beat, and her story telling was legendary. She cherished spending time with her family and friends in Charleston, and often took long trips back home to Alabama to visit her family there. Jerry was a generous soul that was always available to help anyone that needed her. She loved hard, wrapped you in hugs and squeezed tight (really tight), and always had an ear for listening. She had the best laugh and sense of humor. It was impossible not to be captivated by her true joy for life and enthusiasm for each and every new day’s potential. She will be missed dearly, but her lessons and wisdom will live on through the many people who were fortunate enough to know the heart of “Granny”. Jerry was a charter member and worshipper at Carolina Bay Church. She held her faith in the Lord as her constant, steadfast guide. A quote from her favorite Psalm 23 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

She is survived by her sister Patsy Cross of Andalusia AL, daughters Judy Carter Sigler of Huger SC and Nell Carter Barrineau of Mt.Pleasant SC, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband Boney Carter, her son Larry Carter and her great grandson Jaycee Capps.

MICHELLE WATSON

Ms. Michelle Watson of Andalusia passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was 46.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12 noon until time of the service. COVID-19 guidelines will be closely followed. Reverend Cindy Howard will officiate, the Principal of Davis Elementary School will present a Proclamation to the family and Kymberly Keahey will deliver a Celebration of Life eulogy. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing. Honorary pallbearers will be the1992 Andalusia High School, classmates, and the Davis Leadership Team of Davis Elementary School. Flowers will be accepted.

Left to cherish her loving memory, sons, Charles Matthew “Matt” Brunson and John Ross Brunson, both of Andalusia; parents, Willie “Potsy” Watson and Rachel Watson of Andalusia; brothers, Willie Tinker Watson (Sherry Lynn), Jeffrey LaDon Watson, Martha Watson Wallace and Sherry Watson McCommon (Rick), all of Andalusia. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jeff Wallace.

A 1992 graduate of Andalusia High School, Michelle was a determined student and commuted for several years to Auburn University in Montgomery until she earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. She taught at Evergreen Elementary School, W.S. Harlam in Lockhart, and was currently a devoted teacher at Davis Elementary School in Montgomery. Michelle’s career passion was for “at-risk” young students with challenging learning abilities and socio-economic conditions. Her life passion was her two sons, “Matt” and Ross; they were the love of her life. Anyone who spent time with Michelle would hear about “her boys”. Michelle had an affectionate smile that lifted the spirits of those in her presence. She attended and made her public profession of faith at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Andalusia. She was a beautiful daughter, sister, mother, teacher, and friend and one whose untimely passing will leave a forever void on the hearts of those who so dearly loved her. Michelle entered her eternal rest surrounded by her loving family.

ELEANOR CREWS GLIDEWELL

Mrs. Eleanor Crews Glidewell of Gantt passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Andalusia Manor. She was 93.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Sharpe will officiate. The family will receive friends at the cemetery 30 minutes prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the local community food bank in memory of Mrs. Glidewell. The family wants to express their appreciation to the Andalusia Manor for taking such wonderful care of their mother.

Left to cherish her memory, daughter, Mala Elam (David) of Chapel Hill; daughter-in-law, Linda Crews of Palm Bay, FL; grandchildren, Daniel Elam of Hong Kong; Elizabeth Royal (Josh) of Charleston, SC; Angie Barker (Matt) of Palm Bay, FL; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, and Hanna.

She was preceded in death by husbands, James Crews, and Otis Glidewell; son, Harry Crews, and grandson, Michael Crews.

Mrs. Glidewell was a lifelong member of Gantt Baptist Church; she retired from the Alatex and greatly enjoyed being retired. She was a wonderful, mother and grandmother and will be missed.
