A Florida couple is behind bars after the Covington County Sheriff’s Department and the Criminal Investigations Unit started investigating a series of burglaries.
The series of burglaries occurred in and around Southeast Covington County. Through the investigation, the suspects targeted ATVs, golf carts, power tools and firearms.
Utilizing investigative techniques, Terry Bruce Carroll, 51, and Stacie Gene Hanagriff, 55, were developed as suspects.
The Florida couple resides together in North Walton County near the Paxton community.
Investigators learned that an attempt would be made to break into a farm home located on Highway 89 near the Kinston Community. Investigators coordinated an effort to catch the couple in the act.
In the early morning hours of May 26, the couple along with a third subject arrived at the targeted home. Investigators were concealed and watched as items were removed from a barn. Before the home was damaged, investigators took all three subjects into custody.
Terry Carroll attempted to flee the scene on foot but was subdued by investigators. Charges include burglary third, theft of property fourth, theft of property first, possession of burglary tools, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are forthcoming.
Sheriff Turman said the investigation is far from over.
“I commend investigators on a job well done,” Turman said. “Investigators battled insects and fatigue, but their discipline paid off.”
Carroll and Hanagriff are currently being held in the Covington County Jail on a $159,000 bond and $91,500 bond.
