RICHARD “DICKIE” BARNES

Richard “Dickie” Barnes, age 79 of Wing, passed away Thursday, May 7th 2020 at his residence. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Trudie Barnes of Wing AL; two sons, Jeffery Mark (Anita) Barnes of Mill Brooke AL, and Michael Lee Barnes of Troy AL; two daughters, Sharon Barnes Martin of Andalusia AL and Suzanne Barnes (Harrell) David of Andalusia AL; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ginger (Bill) Fick of Andalusia AL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and France Virginia Barnes; and his brother, Jerry Barnes.

JIMMY D. BOLES

Mr. Jimmy D. Boles of Andalusia, formerly of Opp passed away Friday, May 1, 2020, in the Andalusia hospital. He was 65.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery near Elba.He is survived by a sister, Diane (Gary) Kendall of Andalusia; niece, Amber Kendall of Andalusia; nephew, Robbie (Brandi) Boles of Andalusia; great-niece, Brooklynn and great-nephew, Johnny Robert Boles, Jr.; numerous aunt, uncles, and cousins.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Boles, Jr., and Velma Lee Hall and wife, Patsy Boles. He worked as a general repairman at the Opp Cotton Mill for years.

JANICE JERKINS JERNIGAN

Mrs. Janice Jerkins Jernigan of Andalusia went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at the Andalusia Manor. She was 72.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Stone Lake Gardens. Rev. Ashley McKathan will officiate. The family will receive friends at Keahey Funeral Home from 12:45 until 1:45 pm., on Saturday. The state guidelines for the COVID-19 will be followed.

Left to cherish her memory, Walter Mack Jernigan, loving husband of 58 years; son, Bobby (Melody) Jernigan of Dothan; daughter, Cindy (Marion) English of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristen) Craig, Jarrod (Jessica) Craig, Allison Jernigan, Hannah Jernigan four great-grandchildren, Gibson Craig, Ezra Craig, Adelyn Craig, and Ellie Craig.

Janice was born January 14, 1948, in Conecuh County to the late James Robert Jerkins and Ida Darlene Barlow Jerkins. She and Walter were faithful members of Dixie Church. She was a great cook and a skilled card and board game player. She never turned down an invitation to play a game. She will be greatly missed.

SHIRLEY MAE FREENEY

Shirley Mae Freeney, “Dot,” 82, of Andalusia, passed away May 5, 2020.

Freeney, affectingly known by her family and friends as “Dot,” was born in Covington County on Oct. 15, 1937 to Charlie and Nonie Daniels Freeney. In the early hours of May 5, 2020, she answered the Master’s call to eternal peace and rest. In addition to her parents, Dot rests now with her brothers and sisters: Wilbert, Juanita, Charlie Mae and Daniel. Dot is survived by her beloved sister, Lou Ann Freeney Cunningham, her children Arnell (Sylvia) Freeney, Shirley Jean Freeney, Jeffery (Monique) Freeney and an extended family consisting of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dot leaves a legacy of service. Many will remember her as the driver of Bus 59 to Bethune Junior high School or a seamstress at the Alatex. But, her passion was cooking. Working in food services for more than 30 years, she prepared and served countless meals for the faculty and students at Bethune, Straughn schools and First Baptist Church in Andalusia. She lovingly prepared meals for church functions throughout the community as well as for other social gatherings. Fmaily gatherings were marked by countless trips to grocery stores and bountiful menus. She made sure everyone had their favorites including her signature dressing, cream corn, chicken pot pie, chicken salad, tea cakes, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie and everyday comfort food.

She was a member of Mt. Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rose Hill, Ala., where she remained a faithful member until her passing. Also, she was a member of Morton Chapter #258, Order of the Eastern Star for over 66 years serving as secretary for over 63 years. Dot also enjoyed socializing and serving with her friends in the Better Day Savings Club.

A public viewing will be held Mon., May 11, 2020 from 4 p.m., to 6 p.m., at Kirk’s Funeral Chapel. The family will have a graveside service on Tue., May 12, 2020, at 10 a.m., at Marshall Memorial Service.
