Local student sews masks for health care

Not all heroes wear capes, some wear masks.

But unfortunately, due to COVID-19 they are in high demand and short supply.

Andalusia High School Junior Ella Kate Nichols has been spending her spring break trying to help solve this problem.

Her skills learned from  Mrs. Jana Clark, a teacher at Andalusia High School has been coming in handy and she has no time to waste.

“Today I used all of this downtime while social-distancing to sew masks for people in assisted

living and their nurses,”  Nichols says.

“ I was looking for something to do while we are all staying at home for hours besides watching Netflix.”

Nichols said, “One of my mom’s friends works with people in assisted living, and she needed someone to make masks for them and their nurses.”

I had just learned how to sew this past semester in one of my classes at school.

It was the perfect solution to keep me busy and for me to give back to my community.

These masks won’t necessarily protect from germs, but they are mainly used to remind them to not touch their face. I have delivered 10 masks already and am working on even more.”
