On December 28, Florala High School junior Brooke West and her father Rob survived intense injuries from a car wreck that should have been fatal.

Now left with everything to be thankful for, West’s friends at FHS want to show her just how thankful they are to see their friend walk through the high school halls by organizing a fundraising event.

“Dad just picked me up from a friend’s house and we were going to get gas at the Tom Thumb in Laurel Hill,” West said.

Brooke’s dad has many surgeries to still face and will be out of work for several months.

“It is expensive being a junior in high school,” J.D. Hudson said. “Which is why we want to help our friend out by having this fundraiser. Florala is such a good community. Every body has offered to help with food by making homemade pound cake and hamburger plates.”

The event will also have an auction and FHS junior Anthone Stone said he has been practicing his auctioneering voice for the cause. He volunteered as tribute to be the official voice for the bidders.

The 5K Glow Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run, face painting and live auction will be March 7, starting at 4:30.

Everyone is welcome including children and pets. This is a family event at Lake Jackson and early registration ends Tue., Feb. 25.

“We will have everything donated, there is nothing that we paid for this has been a community coming together for Brooke and Rob.” FHS teacher Leigh Newby said. “Running for a reason was created ten years ago by a group of friends. The trend has continued through the years and all checks should be made out to Running 4 A Reason.”

It will be $15 for students, $20 for adults and $5 for the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run.

People can pick up registration forms at Florala High School, the Florala Farmers’ Coop, Sass and Grit or register race day. Hamburger plates are $7.
