Red Level takes down McKenzie

The Red Level High School Lady Tigers are advancing to the next round of the class 1A area tournament after defeating McKenzie High School 68-23.

The Lady Tigers started off strong, taking an 18-4 lead after the first period.

In the second period, Red Level held McKenzie to only six points as they scored 24.

With 52 seconds left in the first half, Ruby Carroll scored to increase the Lady Tiger lead 40-17. Summer Beverly followed, hitting a shot at the buzzer to make it 42-17.

Maggie Wilkerson opened the second half for the Lady Tigers and Ashlyn Joyner scored behind her to make it 46-17.

McKenzie scored with 5:50 left in the third period to cut the Lady Tiger lead 46-19.

After a free throw by the Lady Tigers, MHS scored again to make it 47-22.

With 1:49 left in the third period, Chasey Sanders scored for the Lady Tigers to make it 50-24.

Elizabeth Cross hit a three pointer to get the Lady Tigers to 53-24 to end the third period.

Carroll opened the fourth period for the Lady Tigers, scoring twice to make it 57-24.

Hallie Stokes then hit a three pointer to increase the Lady Tiger lead 60-24.

After a free throw and a shot by Cross, McKenzie scored again, making it 63-28, with 2:04 left in the game.

“I think our girls are just getting a little more comfortable with the game,” RLHS head coach Allen Catrett said. “We changed a couple of things in the past couple of weeks and that seems to have paid off. Tonight, I think they played well, but they were a little slow to begin with. I am proud of the way they played tonight though.”
