The $500,000 runway lighting project is 80 percent complete.
South Alabama Regional Airport Executive Director Jed Blackwell said that the flooding from Jan. 11 and Jan. 13 pushed the project back.
“We’re about 80 percent complete,” he said. “We have to wait for the ground to be dry to pour concrete for the runway and taxiway signs. As soon as we get that done, we can complete the project. We’re hoping to finish by the end of the month.”
The project is part of a continuous project to improve the airport.
Airports can receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.
Using these funds, SARA has been able to make a lot of needed improvements to the airport.
Last year, Blackwell announced that TCA Electrical Contractors from Tifton, Ga., won the bid for the contract.
