Despite taking the lead with a couple minutes left to go, the Straughn High School Tigers fell to Geneva High School 32-27 with 38 seconds left in the game.
“I think that we played really well,” Straughn head coach Joel Williams said. “Geneva changed up some things defensively and we were able to change our game and handle it. It was a great night on offense. I can’t say enough about how good we played.”
Williams said the Tigers took the lead 27-26, with 3:00 left in the game.
“Although they scored on a pass play with 38 seconds left in the game, the game never comes down to just one play,” Williams said. “I mean, early in the game, we let them score a special teams touchdown that never should have happened and then let them score on a screen pass that we shouldn’t have let happen. So, if you take those out then we win by a lot, but we can’t think about it coming down to those plays.”
Despite the loss, Williams said the team is improving each week.
“We keep on fighting each week,” Williams said. “And we will keep on fighting and trying to find a way to win football games.”
With the loss the Tigers are now (1-6,) (1-3) for the season.
Next week Straughn travels to Wicksburg High School.
