HEATING UP IN REGION PLAY: Opp Bobcats prepare to host Wicksburg

The Opp Bobcats (2-3, 2-1) hope to get back in the win column when they host the Wicksburg Panthers (1-4, 1-2) on Friday in Opp.
Opp has come out strong in 2019, but lost their last two games.
In week one, Opp put up a strong fight against Elba, but the Tigers were able to hold on for a 36-34 win over the Bobcats.
Opp opened up region play with a big 35-12 win over the Straughn Tigers.
The Bobcats moved to 2-0 in region play when they drummed Houston Academy 22-7.
Opp fell to 2-1 in region play after falling 56-43 in an offensive shootout with Geneva.
The Bobcats fell to 2-3 on the season last week when Andalusia beat them 48-21.
Opp has scored 155 points this season and has given up 159 points.
Quarterback Hal Smithart has been a big part in the Bobcats’ success so far this season.
Smithart is 87-for-142 for 1,367 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Smithart has also rushed for 58 yards with two touchdowns.
Ashton Patel has been big in the backfield for the Bobcats.
Patel has rushed for 447 yards and seven touchdowns.
Patel has also caught 15 passes for 282 yards.
Erik Matthews has been a top notch receiver for the Bobcats.
Matthews has caught 27 passes for 418 yards and seven touchdowns.
Zee Ridgeway has caught 11 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
Lane Ballard has 18 catches for 210 yards.
Dada Stoudemire has added six catches for 97 yards and one touchdown.
On defense, Opp has been lead by several key players.
Thomas Glisson has recorded 55 total tackles and one interception.
James Cornelius has 51 total tackles and has one sack.
Robbie Gafford has added 35 tackles and one sack.
Brady James has 32 tackles and one interception.
Dakota Cornelius has 19 total tackles and two sacks.
Wicksburg comes into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Wicksburg started the season with a 58-41 loss to Daleville.
Wicksburg picked up a region win in week two when they knocked off Slocomb 21-7.
In week three, Wicksburg lost to Providence Christian 21-0.
Pike County then defeated Wicksburg 33-6 in week four.
Wicksburg moved to 1-4 on the season when they lost to Rehobeth 28-25 in overtime.
So far this season, Wicksburg has scored 93 points and has given up 147 points.
Wicksburg holds a 2-1 record over Opp and won last year’s contest 47-0.
Opp and Wicksburg are set to begin at 7 p.m., on Friday in Opp.
Next week Opp will host Providence Christian for the Bobcats’ homecoming.
