The Red Level Tigers put up a battle, but fell to the McKenzie Tigers 32-22 on Friday night in Red Level.
“Honestly, we didn’t play that great,” Red Level head coach Kenny Skipper said. “In the first half we made a lot of mistakes. We were down 25-7 at half.”
Skipper said the team put themselves in a hole early.
“Special teams is such a big part of the game and we made some mistakes that we shouldn’t make,” Skipper said. “They returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and then we get the ball, fumble and they break a long touchdown. In the first 40 seconds of the game it was 14-0. We put ourselves in a bind early.”
Skipper said he takes the blame for the mistakes.
“I will take the blame for this,” Skipper said. “I didn’t have them ready to play. We are just making some mistakes that we shouldn’t be making. We came back after halftime and one positive from tonight is that we didn’t lay down. We fought and two different times in the second half we cut it to 10. Had a chance really get back in the game and we turned the ball over on the 3-yard line fixing score to cut it to three early in the fourth quarter. We just made a lot of mistakes that you can’t make and win. Just a lot of things we’ve got to get better at.”
Parker Spears scored all touchdowns for Red Level.
