The 15th annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament went off without a hitch on Tuesday at the Andalusia Country Club.
“The day has been great,” Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce director Chrissy Duffy said. “We have had a great turnout and the weather is cooperating. It’s been a good day.”
Duffy said that golf tournament is an important event for the chamber.
“This is the chamber’s only actual fundraiser,” Duffy said. “I know I feel like I’m raising funds all of the time, but most of the events and sponsorships that we offer are to fund that specific event. This is actually a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce that goes to our basic operating budget. It goes to things like the scholarships that we give. We give out four student scholarships a year and three educator scholarships a year. We basically participate in a lot of other programs and services that we otherwise don’t have the sponsorships for. This funds all of those things for the chamber.”
A long with the golf tournament, there was also a ball drop that offered the chance to win money.
“The ball drop went great,” Duffy said. “SEC Kubota came out and brought a front-end loader that we have out on display. They dropped the balls for us and I think William Alverson came away as they big winner today.”
The event couldn’t have been a success without the involvement of the community, Duffy said.
“I want to thank all of our sponsors,” Duffy said. “If you look around the course, you will see lots of names of businesses and organizations. They really make up the backbone of this community. These are the people who again and again and again support our efforts, but not just our efforts. You will also see them supporting youth sports, schools and everything else. These local businesses are what make our community what it is. I just want to say thank you to them for not only supporting our Chamber Golf Classic, but also supporting us through numerous events throughout the year and also all of the other events they support throughout the year.”
