“Billy Jo” honored by state organization

Andalusia native Billy Jo Stallworth was recently awarded the Community Service Honorary Award from the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, on Sunday.
Stallworth was nominated by Sonja Godwin from the Andalusia Adult Activity Center.
Stallworth was also awarded the Veterans award. He is a Vietnam Veteran and is the founding member of the Andalusia Community Christmas Project, which collects toys for children.
He has won the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, President’s Award, been named Citizen of the Year, and was given the Spirit of Andalusia Award by the Rotary Club.
Stallworth is an active member of the Lion’s Club, the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, Department of Human Resources Board, City of Andalusia Leisure Services Recreation Board and City of Andalusia Planning Commission Board.
The Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame was created by the Alabama Legislature on July 28, 1938. On May 16, 2008, the Hall of Fame became a part of the Alabama Department of Senior Services. The stated purpose is to bestow honor and recognition upon Alabamians for their outstanding accomplishments, service and contributions to the lives of older Americans.
