The Andalusia Junior High School Lady Bulldogs finished with a 1-1 record on Thursday in the T.R. Miller Summer Volleyball Tournament in Brewton.
AJHS came out strong in the first match as they downed W.S. Neal Middle School 2-0.
In the final match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs put up a strong fight, but fell to Brewton Middle School 2-0.
“I thought our first game we played a little better,” AJHS head coach Sarah Kelley said. “In the second game, I could really see some things that we need to work on, but I’m very proud of the way they handled the pressure.”
Kelley said that some of the girls are playing volleyball for the first time.
“They really did a great job handling the pressure,” Kelley said. “Some of them have never played before. I thought it was good overall.”
Throughout the day, Kelley said she saw encouraging signs from her squad.
“Some of my girls that hadn’t played before stepped up and handled the pressure,” Kelley said. “They made some hard passes when the serves were hard. We had a couple of blocks. Our front row was able to get some blocks and you don’t see that very often in middle school volleyball. We are doing some good things, but now we just have to put it all together.”
