Covington County gives strong effort

The Covington County 10U softball All-Stars gave it a strong effort, but were eliminated from the state tournament on Saturday in Lineville.

GAME ONE

ROANOKE 9,

COVINGTON 8

In the first game of the tournament, Covington County battled Roanoke down to the wire before falling 9-8.

Katelyne Ranta had a big game for Covington County as she went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Emma Kate Grantham also was strong at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Allyx Williamson went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

In the pitcher’s circle, Williamson struck out 17 batters in seven innings of work.

Roanoke would go on to win the state championship.

GAME TWO

LINEVILLE 15,

COVINGTON 6

In the second game of the tournament, Covington County fell 15-6 to a tough Lineville team.

Callie Ann McVay had a good game at the plate as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Williamson went 1-for-2.

Caroline Blackwell struck out five in three innings of work in the circle.

Kaydn Johnson struck out two in two innings of work in the circle.

GAME THREE

LINEVILLE 8,

COVINGTON 7

The tournament came to an end for Covington County after falling 8-7 to Lineville.

McVay was on top of her game at the plate as she led the way for Covington County. McVay went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one home run.

Williamson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

In the pitcher’s circle, Williamson struck out six batters in two innings of work.

Blackwell struck out three batters in two innings.

Ansley Katauskas struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning.

Mallory Davis struck out three batters in one inning.
