Bobcats earn trip to Gulf Shores

The Opp Lady Bobcats finished as Class 3A, Area 3 runners up after falling to the Geneva Lady Panthers on Friday in the area championship in Geneva.
In the top of the first inning, Braya Hodges singled with two outs in the frame.
Graceanna Spears followed with a single and then the Lady Bobcats loaded the bases when Payton Brown came through with a single.
However, Geneva was able to get out of the inning without Opp scoring a run.
Peyton Walker got the bottom of the first going with a single.
Reese Cauley got the next batter to ground back to her in the pitcher’s circle for the first out.
Walker moved to second on the ground out and then moved to third on a single from A Finch.
Gevena took a 1-0 lead when Walker scored off of an error.
Jesslyn Culverhouse gave the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead when she drove in Finch with a single.
Cauley got the next batter to fly out for the second out of the inning.
Presley Hall kept the inning going with a single and then Makaley Boswell drove in Culverhouse for a 3-0 Geneva lead.
Opp came up with some solid contact in the top of the second inning, but were unable to get a base runner.
In the bottom of the second inning, Nikki Lamb picked up a single to start the frame.
Lamb moved to second when Walker grounded out to Spears at third base.
Meagan Smith followed with a double to center field to put Geneva up 4-0.
Cauley struck out Finch for the second out before a passed ball put Geneva up 5-0.
Cauley got the next batter to fly out to Caroline Courson for the final out.
After two quick outs to start the top of the third inning, Hodges singled to right field.
Spears followed with a single, but then a ground out ended the inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, Cauley retired the Lady Panthers in order.
Opp made contact with three batters in the top of the fourth inning, but were unable to get a runner on base.
Cassadi Adams came into pitch for the Lady Bobcats and she struck out the first batter she faced.
Adams got the next two batters out for a 1-2-3 inning.
Opp’s first batter grounded out to start the top of the fifth inning before McKinley Hill reached after being hit by a pitch.
Hill stole second and them moved to third on a single from Adams.
The Lady Bobcats got on the board when Hodges drove in Hill.
Spears then drew a walk, but the Lady Bobcats were unable to move another run around to score in the frame.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Smith singled to start the frame.
Finch popped out to Hill at second for the first out of the inning.
Adams go the next batter to fly out to Amaya Womack for the second out.
Chloe Nance followed with a single, but the Lady Bobcats avoided giving up more when Hall popped out to Adams for the third out.
Anna Beth Kendrick reached off of an error to start the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Bobcats put runners on first and second when Brooke Mosley drew a walk.
Courson followed with a single that allowed Allie Wismer to score.
Geneva avoided the big inning by getting the next three batters out.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Geneva got a one-out single and then a double that let them take a 6-2 lead.
Opp’s Payton Brown reached off of an error with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, but Geneva was able to get the final out for the win.
