The Red Level Tigers got a strong pitching performance from Tucker Livings as they came away with a 2-0 win over Pleasant Home on Tuesday in Pleasant Home.
Pitchers for both teams came out firing strikes and had the game scoreless after one inning of play.
In the top of the second inning, Jake Jeter reached with one out and then the Tigers loaded the bases with a walk and a hit batter.
Braxton Lee then came through with a fielder’s choice that allowed Jeter to score the first run of the game.
Kade Green singled to start the top of the fifth inning and then a hit batter and a walk loaded the bases with no outs.
Bryson Pate hit a soft ground ball to first base, but instead of throwing to the plate for the out the Pleasant Home first baseman elected to run the ball to first.
In doing so, the Eagles got one out, but Red Level was able to score a crucial second run.
After six innings of play, Red Level was up 2-0.
Pleasant Home came up in the bottom of the seventh inning and got a big hit from Judd Fuqua.
The Eagles then got a walk and moved runners to second and third with one out.
On the mound for the Red Level, Livings finished off the Eagles with back-to-back strikeouts.
“I was really satisfied with the intensity we played with from the beginning to the end,” Red Level head coach Todd Smith said. “This is a game that we’ve been looking forward to for a long time. In the last three years, we have not won a game here. Coming in we knew winning this one was big. Especially since Pleasant Home has already clinched a playoff spot. We knew winning this one today was important and it kind of takes some pressure off.”
Smith said he was very pleased with Livings’ work on the mound.
“I though Tucker did an excellent job on the mound,” Smith said. “He got ahead in the count a lot and I think he struck out 13 and walked two. Our defense played really well. We got a lot of ground balls to the left side. Chance Russell made a lot of good plays. Kade Green was spectacular on that side. We have an injured senior and we had a new kid playing first base today. Braxton Lee helped us out a lot. He made a lot of good stretches and jumped up for a throw one time and came down to find the bag. Braxton stepping in there and playing that position well has really helped.”
