John Vick will present the program at tonight’s Covington Historical Society meeting, set for 6:30 in the Charles Dixon Memorial Room of the Andalusia Public Library.

Vick’s topic will be K. Sawada, Alabama’s Nurseryman, father of the late Ben Sawada, a former pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia. The elder Sawada was a camellia enthusiast and master gardener in the Mobile area.

In addition to being Alabama’s bicentennial year, 2019 marks the 60th anniversary of Alabama adopting the Camellia as the state flower in 1959.
