Students in the Covington County School System will start the 2019-2020 school year on Mon., Aug. 12, and finish the school year on Thursday, May 21.

The board of education approved the schedule at its Tuesday board meeting. Students’ schedule follows:

• Aug. 12 – First day of school

• Sept. 2 – Labor Day holiday

• Oct 14 – Columbus Day holiday

• Nov. 11 – Veterans Day holiday

• Nov. 25-29 – Thanksgiving holidays

• Dec. 23 – Jan. 6 – Christmas holidays for students

• Jan. 6 – Professional development day

• Jan. 7 – Students return to school

• Jan. 20 – King/Lee holiday

• Feb. 17 – President’s Day/weather day

• March 23-27 – Spring Break

April 24 – Break/weather day

May 21 – Last day of school for students

• May 22 – Last day of school for Teachers

The county system is the first local school system to approve calendars for the 2019-2020 school year.
