Andalusia Police officers, along with Andalusia Firefighters and Advanced EMS responded to a two vehicle accident on Moore Road behind Andalusia Elementary School at approximately 2:40 Tuesday afternoon.

A 2017 Dodge minivan and a 2007 GMC Yukon were involved, according to a press release from the Andalusia Police Department.

“Reports indicate the Yukon was exiting the school and the van was traveling south on Moore Road when the collision occurred,” the statement said. “The driver of the SUV was flown by LifeFlight for further treatment. The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The driver of the Yukon was air lifted from the scene.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the release said.

Chief Paul Hudson stated that the area where the accident happened is a school zone and he would like to remind motorists to be aware of this and to drive carefully, obey the posted speed limits during school hours and watch for other vehicles and pedestrians.

More details will be released later pending further investigation.
