Participants in this Saturday’s Movie and a Message at First Baptist Church Whatley Street will have the opportunity to speak via Skype with the son of a Civil Rights icon, organizer Darrell Thomas said.

Kwame Abernathy of Atlanta is the son of Dr. Ralph Abernathy Sr. Abernathy was a Baptist minister who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and was a close adviser to Martin Luther King Jr.

Thomas, who lives and works in Atlanta, but returns home to work with the youth of his Andalusia church, said he has gotten to know the younger Abernathy.

As usual, the event  begins at 5 p.m. and will include a movie and refreshments.

All are invited to attend, Thomas said.
