LADY EAGLES TAKE FLIGHT: Pleasant Home blows past RL in area tourney

The No. 1-ranked Pleasant Home Lady Eagles earned a spot in Class 1A, Area 2 championship game after knocking off the Red Level Lady Tigers 62-22 on Wednesday night in Pleasant Home.
River Baldwin got the Lady Eagles off to a strong start as she picked up the first basket of the game.
Baldwin’s hot start continued as she came away with the first four baskets of the game to put Pleasant Home on top 8-0.
Amy Kate Bulger added a basket after coming up with a steal and then Hope Gunter followed with a bucket to give the Lady Eagles a 12-0 lead.
Allie Garner put the Lady Eagles up 14-0 and then another basket from Baldwin gave Pleasant Home a 16-0 lead.
Red Level got on the board with a goal from Olivia Richfield, but Pleasant Home was up 18-2 after one period of play.
Pleasant Home picked right back up in the second period as buckets from Bulger, Gunter and Baldwin gave the Lady Eagles a 26-2 lead.
Daisy Cordle added a couple of baskets that had Pleasant Home on top 36-2.
As the buzzer was getting ready to sound for halftime, Liz Cross nailed a 3-pointer from halfcourt for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Eagles continued to roll in the second half as they pulled away for a 66-22 victory.
Baldwin led the Lady Eagles with 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Bulger finished the night with nine points and eight steals.
As a team, the Lady Eagles picked up 29 steals.
“That’s one thing we have been preaching here the last three weeks,” Pleasant Home head coach Tony Wilson said of his team’s defense. “Defense, defense, defense. That’s been what we have been preaching. In that time, we have held our opponents scoring down. That’s something that we hope to carry over into the rest of the playoffs.”
The Lady Eagles will face Georgiana on Friday at 6 p.m., in Pleasant Home.
