The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce named Straughn High School senior Emmy Rabren its Student of the Year for 2019.

Emmy has balanced academic, athletic and community endeavors. She has a cumulative GPA of 4.386 on a 4.0 scale, is enrolled in dual enrollment classes at LBW Community College, is an SHS varsity cheerleader, Peer Helper, and has participated in varsity volleyball and track.

She has volunteered to work with the Covington County Child Advocacy Center, Meredith’s Miracles Cookies with Characters, the Full Tummy Project, and Christmas in Candyland, among others.

She also teaches dance at The Company Performance Center.

Rabren plans to attend the University of Alabama to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

“Upon graduation from UA, I plan to work and live in Andalusia,” she said. “I have been heavily influenced by my community and the women engineers in this area. My most important long-term goal is to give back to the town that was so powerful in shaping me and my future.”
