Formed as a territory on March 3, 1817, Alabama became the nation’s 22nd state on December 14, 1819 two hundred years ago. Alabama 200 is a 3-year celebration of the people, places, and events that form our rich history.

Since 2017, schools and teachers, communities, and citizens have been creating events and activities that commemorate the stories of our people, places, and pathway that led to statehood.

Andalusia is no exception. “Sweet Home Andalusia” will be celebrated in a grand way next Thursday, January 31, at the annual Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce banquet.

No one living today can Remember When our town was a dense forest with Indian pathways. A trail was cut and established as a roadway by the army to support its garrison of troops passing through. This Three-Notch Trail is synonymous with the area’s journey through history. This trail led settlers to the falls on the Conecuh River. The village of Montezuma is where our story began. During this Bicentennial year of 2019, let’s encourage each other to learn about our story, remember it, and pass it along to the younger generation.
