Scale Back weigh-ins set this week

Two local health facilities will serve as weigh-in sites for the state’s largest weight-loss and exercise program, Scale Back Alabama, this year. In its 13th year, the program has resulted in millions of pounds lost and lots of healthy habits formed, and the 2019 contest starts this week. Local sites include:

  • Andalusia Health, S. Three Notch St. The weigh-in site is located in the employee health office. Times are: 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday.; 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday., 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday.
  • Mizell Wellness Center, 501 Brantley St. Times are Opp, 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sat.

Adults in teams of two can go online at www.scalebackalabama.com to register for the free, 8-week program and then go to participating organizations to weigh in at specified times. All participants must be 18 years of age and older, live or work in Alabama and must weigh in at an official site Jan. 11-18 to be eligible to participate. At the end of the challenge, those who weigh‐out during the week of April 1–7 and succeed in losing at least 10 pounds have a chance to win cash prizes.

Scale Back Alabama is a collaboration of the Alabama Hospital Association, the Alabama Department of Public Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
