BEGINNING YEAR STRONG: Florala opens up 2019 with big area victory

The Florala Wildcats opened up area play with a big 67-34 victory over the Kinston Bulldogs on Saturday in Kinston.

Florala jumped out front in the opening period and never looked back.

Rashaad Coleman was dialed in from behind the line as he buried three 3-pointers in the first period.

Coleman added two free throws and another bucket for a total of 13 points in the opening period.

Lee Stewart and Antone Stone each had four points to help the Wildcats go up 24-13 at the end of the first period.

Jacob Wood had six points and Hunter Davis five points for the Bulldogs in the first period.

In the second period, the Wildcats continued assert their dominance on the Bulldogs.

Shun White came on strong and led the way for the Wildcats in the second period.

White finished the period with seven points, including a big 3-pointer.

Florala’s defense stepped up in the second period and limited the Bulldogs to just six points.

Caleb Sumblin, Wood and Davis had two points each for the Bulldogs.

Stone picked up five more points and Stewart tacked on three points to help put the Wildcats on top 39-19 at halftime.

Florala remained in the control of the game with another big period in the third.

White led the way for the Wildcats in the third period with seven points, including another 3-pointer.

Stone stayed sharp as he picked up four more points in the third period.

Coleman added three points after knocking down a free throw on an and-one opportunity.

Mekhi James hit a big 3-pointer and Nealand Stone added one point to give the Wildcats a 56-29 lead heading into the final period.

Davis had five points and Wood had four points for the Bulldogs in the third period

In the final frame, the Wildcats held off the Bulldogs to pick up a 67-34 victory.

Coleman led the way in the fourth period with three points.

Logan West, Zac Reese, A. Stone and N. Stone had two points each in the fourth period.

Coleman led the Wildcats with 19 points in the game.

A. Stone finished with 15 and White came in with 14 points.
