Tigers win Brantley tournament

The Straughn Tigers had a big weekend with their boys winning and girls finishing third in the Brantley Christmas Tournament on Saturday.
GIRLS
STRAUGHN 38
LUVERNE 29
Both teams came out sluggish before the Lady Tigers picked up the pace in the second half to secure the win.
Allie Kelley led the Lady Tigers with 17 points.
“I thought the girls fought hard all tournament long,” Straughn head coach Bradley Stephens said. “They played well a gave a lot of effort. The girls did a really good job of adjusting to what Luverne threw at them. I was really proud of how well we shot the ball.”
BOYS
STRAUGHN 35,
ELBA 29
In the tournament championship, the Tigers picked up a 35-29 victory over Elba.
“The boys played tough,” Stephens said. “Elba is a good team and they are physical. I was really proud of how well we handled their physicality of the game tonight. The boys did what they had to do to get the win. We had some key shots from Tyler Ward and Justin Peeples did a great job of getting to the basket. Trent Cleland and Brantley Kelley did a fantastic job playing inside and getting rebounds. Overall, the boys played well and I am proud of them in getting the win.”
Peeples led Straughn with 16 points.
