Baldwin named to 2019 Naismith Watch List

Pleasant Home Lady Eagles phenom River Baldwin has been named to the 2019 Naismith High School Girls’ Watch List.
Baldwin is a 6’5” post player that is committed to Florida State University.
During her career at Pleasant Home, Baldwin has accumulated 2,491 points (22.6 ppg), 1,181 rebounds (10.7 rpg), 530 blocks (4.8 bpg), 226 steals (2.1 spg) and 168 assists (1.5 apg).
According to ESPN, Baldwin is the No. 27 overall recruit and the No. 5 post player for the Class of 2019.
Along with being a standout basketball player, Baldwin recently won the Class 1A MVP for the AHSAA state volleyball tournament after helping to lead the Lady Eagles to their first ever state championship.
The Naismith Awards are named after Dr. James Naismith who created the game of basketball.
In 1963, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was named the first Naismith recipient of the Naismith trophy.
In 1983, the Citizen Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Award was first given to Anne Donovan of Old Dominion University.
The Naismith Boys’ and Girls’ High School Player of the Year awards were established in 1987.
The award goes to the best high school basketball players in the United States.
Baldwin is 1-of-50 girls across the country that has been named to the watch list.
Maori Davenport joins Baldwin on the list as the only two players from Alabama.
Sammie Puisis of Mason, Ohio is the only other Florida State University commit on the list.
