Straughn looks to get back into win column

The Straughn Tigers (1-5) look to get back in the win column this week as they hit the road to take on the Geneva Panthers (3-2) on Friday.
“I thought we played pretty solid on defense last week,” Straughn coach Jarrod Wooten said. “Now we just have to get the offense clicking. We’ve been moving the ball well, but penalties and laying the ball on the ground has been killing our drive.”
Wooten said that they have to work on fixing their mistakes.
“Our emphasis this week is going to be cleaning up our mistakes,” Wooten said. “We are also putting emphasis on cleaning up our red zone offense.”
Geneva has the ability to run and throw the ball well, Wooten said.
“Our guys have to maintain focus on their read keys,” Wooten said. “We did a better job of that last week, but our defensive backs are going to have to be on their toes. Anytime you play quarterback that runs the ball effectively, it’s hard on the defense. We saw some good things last week. Take away two or three plays and I think our defense played about as good as we are capable of playing.”
Straughn and Geneva are set for a 7 p.m., kick off Friday in Geneva.
