Bobcats take down Straughn

The Opp Bobcats junior varsity football team put up a solid showing as they beat the Straughn Tigers 14-8 on Monday night in Opp.
Both teams came out strong as the score remained close throughout the game.
The Bobcats struck first when Jackson Pierce connected with Jaydon Lacey for a touchdown.
Lacey is the younger brother of current Troy Trojan Orlando Lacey.
Straughn clawed right back and picked up a touchdown and then went for two to take the lead.
The Straughn lead held up until late in the fourth quarter.
With 1:06 left to go in the game, Jordan Kelley broke loose and scored to put the Bobcats up 14-8.
Straughn didn’t give up and continued to push the ball down the field.
The Bobcats put the game on ice with 27 seconds left on the clock when Pierce came away with a big interception.
After the turnover, the Bobcats were able to just take a knee and run out the clock.
Pierce led the Bobcat attack from the quarterback position.
Pierce finished the game going 8-for-11 for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Lacey finished the game with three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.
Kelley finished the game with 29 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
Dakota Cornelius led the Bobcats on defense with 11 tackles.
Lacey added three tackles and one sack for 11 yards.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 2-0 on the season.
