The Pleasant Home Eagles put up a strong fight, but fell to the Elba Tigers 28-14 Friday night in Pleasant Home.
Pleasant Home got on the board first when Brenden Douglas stripped the ball and ran 50 yards for the touchdown.
At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied 6-6.
In the third quarter, Douglas scored on a 10-yard run to cut Elba’s lead down to 28-14.
“We played very well,” Pleasant Home head coach Rick Mercer said. “We came out and hit them in the mouth which is what I what I preach to them.”
Despite falling short of the win, Mercer said he was pleased with the performance of his players.
“Elba is a very good team,” Mercer said. “I wanted them to come in here and know that they had to fight for a win. If the kids do what I coach them to do, we have a chance to be successfull and they did that tonight.”
Now the Eagles set their sights on Red Level.
“We’ve got a big rivalry game next week,” Mercer said. “It’s always a big game and we are excited.”
