Netflix yesterday announced that the premiere of Insatiable, based loosely on the life of local attorney and pageant coach Bill Alverson, will be released on Friday, Aug. 10.
Alverson shared the good news with fellow members of the Andalusia Rotary Club Tuesday.
“It’s about a small-town lawyer who is a pageant coach,” Alverson said. “It’s based on my personality. I’m listed as a producer, and I have one line in the first episode.”
Insatiable was developed for The CW, which did not pick it up. But Alverson said that turned out to be a good thing when Netflix ordered a full season of the “dramedy” featuring Debby Ryan, Dallas Roberts and Alyssa Milano.
Insatiable centers on Patty (Ryan), who, for years, has been bullied, ignored, and underestimated by those around her because of her weight. But now that she finds herself suddenly thin, Patty is out for payback against anyone who has ever made her feel bad about herself.
Alverson said the character of Bob Armstrong, a dissatisfied civil lawyer turned beauty pageant coach has one son and one daughter in the show, while he has a son and two daughters.
“My daughter Stella is trying to get me to lobby them to make the daughter a volleyball player, not a basketball player, in the next season, so they will know it’s based on her, not her sister,” Alverson said.
Alverson also recently did an episode of “To Tell the Truth,” which airs at 9 p.m. on Sundays. The episode is expected to air this week.
Previously, a reality show about his life, Coach Charming, was filmed in Andalusia.
