An Andalusia man hopes to localize sporting goods with his new shop.

“I just wanted to make a specialty store for sports, nothing like what we have here already,” Aaron Barton, the owner said.

The idea came to Barton because of his love for sports and the fact that locally it’s hard to get gear.

“We’re going to sell seasonally, so in football season there will be a lot of football gear and the same goes for the other seasons,” he said.

“By August we’re going to try and have team apparel for all the local high schools.”

Barton’s Sports and Design sells anything from cleats, protective gear for football, to baseball gloves.

“We also have embroidery and screen printing equipment in the back of the store,” Barton said.

Barton’s has open for about a month now and so far business has been great.

“We haven’t had our grand opening yet but it’s in the works,” Barton said.

“We will be doing something special for that.”

As for putting the store together, Barton said it was relatively easy.

“Honestly all we had to do was make it look more like a sports store once we got the building,” Barton said.

Barton’s Sports and Desgin is located next to The Vapor-Stache on West Bypass and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays. On Saturdays, it’s open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
