Gavin Free’s recently-discovered passion for high intensity interval training led him to open a fitness center in Opp.
Free partnered with his cousin, Dillon Rogers, to open Beyond Fitness334.
“I started CrossFit around a year ago and I fell in love with the challenge,” Free said.
“I knew that Opp didn’t offer anything like CrossFit so I decided to bring it here.”
Free said that Beyond Fitness334 is not affiliated with CrossFit but the workouts are similar in that they are all high intensity.
“It’s just straight-up fitness, but with CrossFit type movements.”
Once Free and Rogers decided to make their own fitness center, they looked for the perfect building.
“When we first got the building there was carpet and tile underneath that,” Free said.
“We had to take out the carpet and scrape out every single tile.”
After that, the two installed rubber flooring.
“It’s not meant to look like a high end gym,” Free said.
“It’s pretty much meant to look like a garage,” he joked.
Free hopes that people will give the program a chance.
“We’re trying to keep the membership pretty low in cost,” he said.
“We also wanted to accommodate offshore workers and people under 18.”
Free has several different packages available, with contracts ranging from $60 to $75 per month.
For first timers, one class is free.
Classes are Monday through Friday, daily at 5:15 a.m., 4:15 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Both Rogers and Free will teach the classes.
“These workouts are truly for everyone,” Free said.
“There’s no limit on who they’re for. All shapes and sizes can participate.”
For the nutrition side of things, Free said there is an option to speak to someone about meal planning.
“We just want to help people in any way we can to achieve their goals. I want people to give the program a try.”
Beyond Fitness334 is located at 414 North Main St. in Opp.
