After 20 years in cosmetology, Rhonda Lawson has achieved a longtime goal: She has her own salon.

Just Teasin’ opened June 1 in Andalusia.

“So far, business has been going well,” Lawson said.

Lawson currently has one independent contractor, Jenna Chechak, working with her. Chechak, who is both a cosmetologist and esthetician, helped Lawson set up the décor and pick out the name.

“We wanted a unique name for the business,” Chechak said. “Something that sounded fun and unique.”

Lawson says that she hopes her salon puts out a friendly vibe for clients.

“One thing I am trying to do is put out a comfortable atmosphere with the beachy decorations,” she said.

“To me, the most relaxing place is the beach and I wanted my salon to be relaxing for clients.”

Another thing Lawson hopes to provide is a drama-free atmosphere.

“I want all my clients to have a positive experience and a really friendly feel,” she said. “I want them to feel like friends and family.”

The salon offers hairstyles, perms, haircuts, facial, full body waxes, makeup and even eyelashes.

“We also do any beauty pageant makeup and hair, as well as wedding makeup and hair, with the option to travel if necessary,” Lawson said.

Just Teasin’ offers a loyalty card with a free service after six purchases.

“After six visits or six punches on the card, you can get a free brow wax, lip wax or haircut,” Lawson said.

Lawson said she pursued cosmetology because of her love for people.

“I really just enjoy talking to people,” she said. “I used to work around at sewing factories but they kept shutting down. But with cosmetology, everyone’s going to get their hair done sooner or later.”

Lawson is a master cosmetologist, meaning she cares for clients’ hair, skin and can even do nails.

By August, she hopes to have four cosmetologists working within the building.

The salon is open on Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. until.

“Some nights we can stay from 6-7 p.m., it really just depends,” she said.

“If there is a need for a Tuesday appointment, call ahead to schedule it.”

Just Teasin’ is located at 1522 East Three Notch Street in Andalusia, near the Church’s Chicken.
