Private art camps are being offered in Opp and Andalusia this summer.

Cathy Powell will offer summer art lessons, Rhythm and Movement in Art, for several age groups from June 18-22.

Classes for ages 4, 5 and 6 are set for 1 until 1:45 p.m. The class is designed for “young artists with big imaginations and short attention spans,” and will incorporate music, creative movement, and messy art in several mediums.

Classes for elementary grades are set for 2 until 3 p.m. The class incorporates art appreciation and children’s literature.

Classes for junior high and high school students are set for 3:30 until 4:30 each day. This class is designed for more mature artists who want to learn about sketching and drawing techniques, and draws upon the book, “The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain,” by Betty Edwards.

Classes are $100, and there is limited availability. To sign up, email Powell at

powellc@andalusia.k12.al.us.

The classes will be held at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Opp Cultural Arts Center is offering art camps for several age groups this summer. However, all camps are full except the camps for third and fourth graders.

Classes are open for these students from 10:30 a.m. until noon, with camps offered in June and July. The June camp is set June 11-15; and the July camp is July 16-20.

Classes are $100. For additional information, call the OCAC at 334.764.4611, or email OppCulturalArts@gmail.com.

The LAAC in Andalusia also is expected to announce classes for students.
