Rain may be a good thing for this area, but it’s not a good thing for the Full Tummy Project’s biggest fundraiser.
If rain becomes an issue the annual golf tournament will reschedule for a Tuesday in June the organizer, Katie King, said.
The fundraiser was originally scheduled for Tues., May 15 at 1 p.m., with a lunch before the event.
“We will make the call whether we need to cancel the tournament or not today at 10 a.m.,” King said. “We will reschedule for a Tuesday in June.”
King said that around 14 or 15 teams signed up for the event.
“We had around 60 golfers and 40 whole sponsors,” she said.
“I really hope it doesn’t rain but you never know.”
King said most golfers are willing to play in a drizzle but not a thunderstorm.
“We’ve had a tournament in the past were it drizzled and everyone played it through it,” she said. “But not in a thunderstorm.”
King said she will be watching the forecast closely and hopes that they can continue with the tournament.
“I’m grateful because we do need the rain,” she said.
Full Tummy is a 501(c)3 organization that collects easily made food items for children who have risk of going without food during the weekends that they’re not in school.
A lot of children within Covington County depend on the food to go throughout the weekend.
Just last school year, more than 250 children per week in local schools were given food.
“This tournament is our largest fundraiser,” King said. “I really hope that we don’t have to cancel it.”
