The Andalusia Bulldogs’ soccer team ended their season on Monday night with a 3-1 loss to the Montgomery Catholic Knights in the second round of the Class 4A-5A state playoffs in Montgomery.
Montgomery Catholic wasted no time putting shots on the goal, but Andalusia’s goal keeper Franklin Osario did a good job of keeping the ball out of the net.
The Bulldogs then made a strong run at the Knights’ goal, but missed on a pass that would have set up a shot attempt.
Montgomery Catholic then got a good look at goal on a corner kick, but Logan Adams came up with a header to get the ball away from the goal.
A few minutes later, Reese Burkhardt made a strong shot at the goal on a direct kick, but it sailed left of the mark.
The Bulldogs then got a goal kick from Burkhardt, who sent long kick to David Rutledge at midfield.
Rutledge took a few steps before firing a pass to Kiki Wain.
Wain drove up the field around on Montgomery Catholic defender and then set a shot screaming into the net to put the Bulldogs on top 1-0 with 17:24 left in the opening half.
With time winding down in the opening half, the Knights scored on a penalty kick to even up the score.
The Knights went on to hit two more goals in the second half to close out the 3-1 victory.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our guys,” Bulldog coach Ray Bozeman said. “They played super hard and overcame some changes. Hats off to Catholic they played well and played hard. The ball just bounced their way tonight, but I’m very proud of our team.”
