Opp rallies to force game 3

The No. 2 Opp Bobcats battled back to split with the No. 1 Mobile Christian Leopards on Friday night in Opp in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs to force a game three today.

GAME ONE

MOBILE 12,

OPP 4

Mobile Christian tore the cover off of the ball in the opening game of the series to take a 12-4 victory.

The Leopards went deep three times and out hit Opp 16-10 in the first game.

Opp had several chances to cut into the Leopards’ lead, but were unable to rally past the top-ranked team.

GAME TWO

MOBILE 1

With their backs against the wall, Opp got a masterful performance on the mound from Logan Ross to knock off Mobile Christian 4-1 and force a winner-take-all game three.

Spurlin Kelley got things rolling for Opp in the top of the first inning with a single to start the contest.

Kelley then moved around to second when Lane Worley drew a walk.

The Leopards then got a double play, but on the play Mobile Christian committed an error that allowed Worley to score the game’s first run.

A few batters later, Dalton Grider drove in Ethan Baker with a hard-hit ball to second.

Mobile Christian scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third.

Opp answered right back with a sacrifice fly that scored Grider.

Opp added their final run in the top of the fifth when Kody Richburg drove in Kelley.

Mobile Christian got a single to start the bottom of the seventh, but the Bobcats followed that up with a double play.

Ross then struck out the final batter of the game.

Opp and Mobile Christian will wrap up the series at 1 p.m., today.
