APD washing cars for Relay

The Andalusia Police Department is launching a new Relay for Life fundraiser this year, with officers washing cars at the department.
People can “Spring into Action” Sat., April 7, from 7:30 a.m. until noon.
The car wash will be $10 and all proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
“We usually do a yearly event for Relay for Life,” Allen Scofield, the public information director at APD, said. “This year we wanted to change it up a little and do a car wash.”
Scofield is hoping for a big turnout.
“It is for a really great cause,” Scofield said. “And it will be police officers washing your car, who doesn’t want that?”
Along with the car wash, the APD will offer free child I.D. kits available with fingerprints and photos and they will offer free sign-ups for the Civilian Firearm Safety Classes. There are two dates available in May for the Firearm Safety Class with 20 participant limit per class and must be 18 or older.
The APD will also offer Project Safe Keeping at the event, which is also free. APD personnel will be on hand to help complete a home or property inventory registration, which will be kept on file at APD in a secured location.
“We are happy to help,” Scofield said. “It is important to have all of those things, so that is why we are offering it free to the public.”
The car wash replaces the APD’s usual “arrest a friend” event.
