Assistant Regional Commissioner Joe Cormier of the Babe Ruth League, Inc. was in attendance at Tuesday’s county commission meeting to sign a contract to bring the 2018 Babe Ruth 15 and Under Southwest Regional Tournament to Andalusia.
“I am very excited to be bringing this tournament to Andalusia,” Cormier said. “Andalusia is one of our strong points in the Babe Ruth League and we have good people here that support us.”
Cormier has been with the Babe Ruth League for 40 years and said he is always excited to bring tournaments to Andalusia.
“We have brought the World Series here in 2007 and in 2011 and have had a great experience with the town,” Cormier said.
Covington County Recreation Board member Kyle Adams said the tournament will be held at Straughn High School’s baseball field.
“We are looking to have at least eight to ten teams show up,” Adams said. “We will host teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and two teams from Texas.”
Cormier announced that Adams will be the president of the tournament, and Dwight Mikel will be the tournament director.
The tournament is set to begin July 19, 2018.
