Lady Saints fall to Wallace-Dothan

The LBWCC Lady Saints fought hard, but fell to Wallace-Dothan 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Andalusia.
Wallace started the game with a leadoff singe, but the Lady Saints were able to work out the frame without allowing a run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Jessica Dickson dropped a double down the left-field line to get the Lady Saints rolling.
Summer Simmons followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Dickson to third.
Katy Cotton then drove a pitch to center field for a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Saints an early 1-0 lead.
Wallace battled back in the top of the second inning and tied the game.
After two quick outs started the bottom of the second inning, Ashlyn McKeown drew a walk.
McKeown moved up to second on a wild pitch and then advanced to third on a single from Dickson.
Simmons followed with a line drive, but the Wallace second baseman snagged the ball to end the inning.
Wallace came on strong in the top of third inning and took the lead.
The first batter reached off an error and a then a single moved her to second.
Wallace then got back-to-back singles to go up 3-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, Cotton doubled to get things going for the Lady Saints.
Cotton was then moved around to third base when Natalie Aplin grounded out to the pitcher.
Lindsey Fox then ripped a ball to second that was mishandled and allowed Cotton to come around to score.
The next two batters were retired to the score 3-2 heading into the fourth inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Saints defense came out strong and retired the Wallace batters in order.
The Lady Saints had a few hard-hit balls in the bottom of the fourth inning, but were unable to get anyone on base.
Wallace picked up a single to start the top of the fifth inning and then got a quick steal of second.
The next batter moved the runner to third with a ground out.
The Lady Saints then committed an error that allowed Wallace to score.
Betsy Powell then picked up a strikeout, but a run-scoring single gave Wallace a 5-2 advantage.
The Lady Saints continued to put the bat on the ball, but the balls continued to find the gloves of the Wallace defense.
Wallace also continued to swing the bats well as back-to-back-to-back singles loaded up the bases to start the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Saints got the next to batters to ground out, but then a two-out double put Wallace on top 7-2.
Wallace got another run across off of a passed ball to go on top 8-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Saints retired the Wallace batters in order.
After a line out started the bottom of the seventh inning, Dickson reached first after being hit by a pitch.
The Lady Saints were unable to get the run around to score.
Dickson finished the game 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Fox went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Cotton finished the game 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
Powell was hit with the loss despite giving just three earned runs.
Powell struck out three batters and allowed 13 hits in seven innings pitched.
