As the Covington County Relay for Life event draws closer, the committee is working hard on their committee level fundraiser, set for today.
“The Relay For Life beauty pageant is the fundraiser that the committee is in charge of,” Randi Bozeman, the program’s coordinator, said.
The beauty pageant will be held today at the LBWCC campus in the Dixon Center.
“This year we are seeing a lot of participation with the pageant.”
Bozeman said that around 72 girls signed up to participate in the pageant.
“We are very busy putting this together,” Bozeman said.
“Every group has five girls or higher.”
This year’s pageant has a new addition to it, Bozeman said.
“The crowd can pick the overall winner,” she said.
It’s called Relay Warrior and it’s a way to keep the audience engaged.
“We just want to keep everyone active and build more excitement,” Bozeman said.
As for the Relay For Life event, Bozeman said there are around 10 teams.
“We also have a number of corporate sponsors,” she said.
Bozeman said they would have a definite number of how much money had been raised on “Bank Night.”
“Bank Night is when all the teams meet and we add up all of the money,” she said.
Bank Night will be held in the 4-H building on April 10 from 5:30-7 p.m.
The event will follow on April 13, and will be from 6-10 p.m.
“We have a lot of new things this year and what we’re trying to do is get more participation in the event,” Bozeman said.
“There will be some new entertainment, a scavenger hunt and a passport game that goes along with the theme for this year.”
This year’s theme is “Relaying Around the World.”
Each team will decorate their tents as a different country that they choose.
The goal is still set for 20 teams and $100,000 and Bozeman is remaining optimistic about reaching that goal.
“There’s a lot of participation with this year’s event and I hope we can meet the goal. We have come really close in the past to reaching it.”
