The Child Advocacy Center is restoring smiles on the faces of abused children one T-shirt at a time.
Every year, the CAC sells T-shirts that help fund their center in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention month.
National Child Abuse Prevention Month is time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect and also to promote the social and emotional wellbeing of children and families.
“We sell these T-shirts so that people understand what we do,” Kaci Perry, the executive director of the Child Advocacy Center said.
“We help children that come from unfortunate circumstances and we just help them be children again.”
The CAC offers a child friendly environment to children who may have been victims of sexual or physical abuse. The center offers free counseling and makes the process of investigation easier on children who have endured abuse.
“It really helps because this a place the children can come and just be themselves.”
The theme for this year’s shirts is “Restoring Smiles”.
Perry said that the shirts mean helping children gain happiness back.
“Just to see that child come into the center and seeing the trauma all over their face and then seeing them slowly gain their smiles back. That’s what this T-shirt means to me,” she said.
So far, the center has sold 40 T-shirts but Perry is hoping to sell at least 100.
The Comfort Color shirts are $25 and come in sizes small to 3XL.
The deadline to order the shirts is March 14.
