The Andalusia Board of Education agreed to Tuesday to increase pay for substitute nurses.
Superintendent Ted Watson made the recommendation, adding that substitute nurses are sometimes needed to accompany students on field trips to administer medicines or assist with feeding students with special needs.
At present, he said, substitute nurses receive $60 per day, far less than they would receive working in a medical setting. With the board action, pay for substitute nurses who are LPNs will increase to $10 per hour, or $75 daily, while pay for RNs will increase to $13 per hour, or $97.50 per day.
In other business, the board:
- Granted a leave of absence under the family leave act to Emily Smith, pre-school enrichment program paraprofessional.
- Transferred Sara Catherine Patrick from AHS English teacher to AJHS guidance counselor, retroactive to Jan. 4, 2018
- Hired Maklyn Hudson as and English teacher at AHS, retroactive to Jan. 4, 2018.
