EAGLES REIGN SUPREME: Pleasant Home clinches Class 1A, Area 2 title

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles dominated the Kinston Lady Bulldogs 51-23 on Thursday night in Pleasant Home to win the Class 1A, Area 2 Championship.
The Lady Eagles won the tip off and took it straight to the basket to take the lead.
Two layups from Allie Garner and Hope Gunter put the Lady Eagles up 8-0.
The Lady Bulldogs were shut down on offense until four minutes left in the first period when they scored a basket to put them on the board.
At the end of the first period, River Baldwin sank two free throws to put the Lady Eagles up 20-4.
The Lady Eagles stayed strong on defense and didn’t allow the Lady Bulldogs to score until 4:50 left in the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs then got a 3-pointer to cut the Pleasant Home lead down to 23-7.
Baldwin answered quickly with a layup for the Lady Eagles.
At the start of the second half, the Lady Eagles were up 30-13 and kept on driving the score up to finish the third period 41-16.
The Lady Bulldogs never gave in a cut the Lady Eagles’ lead down to 51-21 with just over a minute left in the game.
Baldwin led the Lady Eagles with 30 points.
“We took care of business,” Pleasant Home Head Coach Tony Wilson said. “We didn’t get complacent and we did what we had to do to win the ball game.”
Wilson said that this game was a good test to get them ready for what they could expect from next week’s game.
“We are looking forward to next week’s challenge,” Wilson said. “I know these girls will play hard, and I hope we can execute.”
The Lady Eagles will host McIntosh on Monday night in sub-regional action.
