The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs gave a solid effort, but fell to Escambia County 51-50 Wednesday night in the opening round of the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament in Monroeville.

Shalisa Thomas had four points in the opening frame, but the Lady Bulldogs trailed 14-7 going into the second period.

Grace Wilcox accounted for seven points in the second period and Symone Reed came in with three points, but the Lady Bulldogs were down 27-19 at halftime.

Thomas came on strong in the third period with eight points and trimmed the Escambia County lead down to 38-33 heading into the fourth period.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to battle in the final period with Kabrecia Presley knocked home a pair of 3-pointers, but Escambia County managed to escape with a 51-50 win.

Thomas led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points.
